Building a partner shortlist that respects everyone’s time

Incoming firms often ask for “introductions to everyone in the sector.” That request wastes local goodwill and dilutes your own attention.

A useful shortlist starts with criteria, not names: channel role (distributor, co-packer, installer), geographic coverage, margin expectations, exclusivity habits, and cultural fit with how you sell. Only then do we map firms that meet enough of those criteria to justify a conversation.

We typically keep shortlists to three to five serious counterparts for a first wave. If a target declines or proves a poor match, we replace it deliberately — we do not pad the list to look busy.

If a counterpart has no commercial reason to meet you yet, we say so. Soft landing support is not a tour of polite coffees.
